After 3 weeks of investigation, the Swedish Parliament decided to build the canal and 1st of August 1941 the first vessel passed. Höllviksbron (Höllviken bridge) which passes the canal is openable for larger sailboats to pass. It has a sail-free height of 3.9 meters and the maximum depth is 4 meters.
