Every year, this Viking village arranges a new Battle of Foteviken. The participants of the organized training camp gather on the beach where the great battle originally stood on June 4, 1134
The history of charming Skanör stretches as far back as the 12th century and was during the medieval, together with Falsterbo, one of the largest cities in the Nordics.
Every year on Midsummer Eve the fast-paced Goose Race is organized in idyllic Skanör. It's a team competition and those participating do not have to be in top shape but it's necessary to have good coordination. See our movie so you understand why.
You compete on a track that is 1052.3 goose meters. Since a regular Swedish meter is equivalent to 1.39 goose meters, this means that the race is 757.1 "real" meters. The race start at Apoteket on Östergatan and have a finish at the City Hall.
It's not just a matter of coming first ...
Certainly it is a contest where those who make the race at the best time get a price. But over the years, even to get the "Best Dress" award, everything from vikings to fantasy costumes has fought in the race encouraged by the spectators' cheering. The most entertaining team in recent years is "Bad Taste" who, with their song "Paul has bought a beach ball" (original: "Pål har köpt en badboll" by Galenskaparna & After Shave), got a lot of applause and free drinks on their tour along Östergatan.
A big success
The Goose Race which started in 1984, is a major audience success every year when it is organized on Midsummer's Eve. The race alwayts start at 12.30.
