The nature reserve Måkläppen is a bird and seal paradise in world class. An "island" that constantly changes its shape and size. Nowadays, Måkläppen is seldom an island, a long sand shelf connects it to land if there is no high tide. Why Måkläppen which is made up of sand deposits, constantly changes it's shape during all these years, is mainly due to the ocean currents and autumn storms. Måkläppen is located just outside of Nabben and is a seal and bird protection area, a popular place for gray and harbour seals, as well as a breeding ground for coastal birds.
During inventory over the past five years, great black-backed gull, herring gull, shelduck, cormorant , oystercatcher, avocet, plover, black-legged plover, lapwing, redshank, seagull, Caspian tern, little tern and arctic tern have been observed.
You can enter Måkläppen only between November 1st and January 31st. In addition to bird and seal watching, you can also look for amber. The rest of the year you can go straight to the "border" at Falsterbo Golf Course where you have a splendid view. The easiest way to find here is if you go via Falsterbo Lighthouse after parking at Falsterbo Golffklubb.
